The Not-So Video Update

Well we lied. Yesterday we said we’d be bringing you the latest episode of the Video Update today. Due to some technical problems we’re going to for-go the old school method of bullet points. Here we go:

  • 9th Graders – Be sure to sign up for the “9th Grade Night Out” (click for details)
  • Red Lake Team – Hopefully you’ve sent out your support letters, if not.. get on it!
  • Seniors – Remember that June 7 is Senior Recognition Day in big church, so plan on being there for both services so we can tell the whole church how much you rock.
  • Everyone – Considering getting baptized? The next baptism service is June 21.
  • Everyone again – The NSL Worship band is leading worship in big church this Sunday, come worship with us!

That’s all the updates, so now for some Video of the Week goodness. This week it is a silly action sequence that asks which came first, the chicken or the egg gun.

Video of the Week: 40

Here is a perfect video for this week, being the start of Lent and all. It’s a collection of illustrations that an artists drew to account for Jesus’ 40 days of fasting in the wilderness, and subsequent temptation by Satan. Here’s the story out of Matthew 4:

The Temptation of Jesus

1 Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted there by the devil. 2 For forty days and forty nights he fasted and became very hungry. 3 During that time the devil[a] came and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become loaves of bread.”

4 But Jesus told him, “No! The Scriptures say,

‘People do not live by bread alone,
but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’[b]

5 Then the devil took him to the holy city, Jerusalem, to the highest point of the Temple, 6 and said, “If you are the Son of God, jump off! For the Scriptures say,

‘He will order his angels to protect you.
And they will hold you up with their hands
so you won’t even hurt your foot on a stone.’[c]

7 Jesus responded, “The Scriptures also say, ‘You must not test the Lord your God.’[d]

8 Next the devil took him to the peak of a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. 9 “I will give it all to you,” he said, “if you will kneel down and worship me.”

10 “Get out of here, Satan,” Jesus told him. “For the Scriptures say,

‘You must worship the Lord your God
and serve only him.’[e]

11 Then the devil went away, and angels came and took care of Jesus.

and here’s the video…

Cooper’s Big Splash

So you may not remember, but you’re invited to submit your own videos to NSLtv. Then we get them up on the NSL YouTube Channel. Cooper did just that during his time working in Colorado this summer, demonstrating his new way to cool off. So I’m very pleased to present you with Cooper’s Big Splash…

Atta boy!

U Speak Is Now Online!

NSLtv has a new channel! U Speak, the "you channel", is a place for you to upload videos with your own thoughts, activities, or adventures. Maybe you took video at a youth event, we'd love to put it online. Maybe you were hanging out with your NSL buddies and you did something fun, we'd love to see what you're up to. Maybe you want to share your thought about an event in your life, or something we did as a group. It's like YouTube for Northwood Student Life, so it's whatever you want to see on there.

U Speak is just another way that we are building the NSL community. Just because we don't have youth group on a Thursday doesn't mean you shouldn't be able to share your life with the rest of us!

Click here to head to NSLtv, and then click the U Speak tab for a welcome for yours truly. I look forward to hearing what YOU have to say!

Video: Spring Blitz '08 Slideshow

Our own Andrew Moore had a slide show of this weekend's trip to Spring Blitz finished within 24 hours of getting back. It's rockin' it out on YouTube right now, complete with music from Josiah Smith Band. A big thanks to Andy, enjoy the show.

Also, I need your pics from the weekend to put in our online gallery, please either e-mail them to me or bring me a disc this week. Thanks!

Video: The Great Rules Caper

I had a some requests to post the Great Rules Caper video starring Cooper & Jason that we used at the Becker Retreat. It's now showing over at NSL:tv [click here] along with clips from past events. We'll get video and pictures from this weekend made up ASAP and posted there as well.
Here's the video:

Kudos to Coop & Snowflake for their sweet ideas and hard work.

Video: Lifehoues-Everything Skit

Here's the video that Luke used in his talk Friday night. It's a powerful reminder of how things in life can get between us and God, how we have to fight to change that, and how Jesus will stop at nothing to fight for us.

(Side note: Yes, Luke still cried at the video just posting it here on the blog. Gosh! When am I going to be able to make it through this thing dry eyed?)

Video: Evangelism Linebacker

Enough people asked about finding this video we showed yesterday that I decided to post it. Enjoy!
"I knocks da pride outta them!"
